Be carefulwhat you say, you never know who may be listening!

Mel Gibson recently did an interview on the comeback trail from some really rocky times. Many organizations get frustrated when they are going through a crisis. It is important to remember that no matter how much good you do, one black mark can follow you. That is not necessarily a bad thing. It keeps organizations honest about themselves and their mission. A little humility can go a long way, but the public, your customers and your donors will remind you that you are being watched, and that can be frustrating too.

Here is a video interview with Mel Gibson that illustrates this point:

Back in my days with the National Explorer Cabinet, we got a chance to spend some time with Ed Foreman.  He said something that I have tried to embrace everyday,  “Never say anything negative about anybody.  You never know who is listening.”

So be careful how you react, you may find yourself losing important funding or your next job offer along the way and not even know it.  This becomes even more important in this age of instant, searchable and viral communications.
